'Bring a Can, Skate a Can' with Skate Jawn and Vans Skate

Winter is definitely here, so we teamed up with our good friends at Skate Jawn and Vans to host an indoor contest / skate jam / excuse to enjoy really good food and beer (thanks Minnows!) away from the cold at Vans Skate Space 198. What could be better than that, you ask? Well, what if we did it for a great cause?!?!? Well, dear reader…we did! In addition to skating and having a great time, we collected non-perishable food donations for One Community, a non-profit that distributes food to those in need in Brooklyn. Since the event centered around collecting cans, we thought it fitting to hold our contest on a macro-sized version of a soup can. We’re creative like that. Shout out to Mike Sass for the ideation. Collections will be accepted until January 1st at Space 198, so bring donations when you come to skate.

Video recap by Greg Navarro above, photos by Sean Bendon below:

Nick Johnson captured the crowd’s attention as well as a frontside smith grid before the contest even started.

DJ Heavyhands played the hits, including some low-key favorites.

Once the contest got going, we were quick to call him ‘front heel Neil’. Neil Herrick, frontside heelflip.

Issac White had several bangers, but this backside flip was the biggest crowd pleaser.
